I Need A Great Book

I finished House Rules. It was a huge disappointment. I love almost every Jodi Picoult book I have read. Her subjects are unique. Stories have great twists. I am always pleasantly surprised with Picoult's books. This was not the case. The book was very long. Over 500 pages. I do not mind reading a long book, just prefer it is a good book. I figured out the ending fairly early on. Then I was left with a very long, overly detailed story. I rated it a 3 on my 1-5 scale. I think because I am a huge Jodi Picoult fan it is a generous rating. Really, it was a 2.

I was not disappointed by the subject. The story revolves around a family. A single Mother, her oldest son, who suffers from Aspergers, and a younger son. Aspergers is a form of autism. That is one of the unique things about Picoult's subjects, they are usually topics that are in the news. The book did a great job of showing the hardships of a sibling and parent of someone with special needs. I loved the plot. Loved the subject and how it was portrayed. I liked the characters. I just felt like it went on and on and on. Maybe I should not have read two long books in a row. Might have just drained me. I am ready for a short, fun read. Give me some feedback. If you read this book, what did you think?
