I buy books. Lots of books. I like to keep the books I buy. Once in awhile when I run out of room, I will get rid of books. The problem is, as soon as I get rid of a book, I will need to refer to it.
The other problem is, I will get rid of a book and then I will find
another book by the same author and want all of her books. I have promised myself to not get rid of anymore books. One room in my house is designated my book room. It is also the room I store my clothes in. It is the smallest bedroom in our house. I have four bookcases in that room. Three of the bookcases have
two sections, side by side. That is like having 6 bookcases.
That is not enough. Over time my books will end up in all the rooms in the house. My book room will have stacks all over the floor. One of the best parts of having so many books is I like to see them on the shelves. I like my paperbacks together, authors together, quality paper backs together. There is not a system to my books that other people would understand. I have one section of books I like to read over and over. A section for my favorite classical books. The most important thing is, I want all of my books on shelves. I read a hint in a magazine that to save space, lifts can be put on the shelves. It suggested that 2" high pieces of wood be used. I used some scrap wood I found already cut. Then I came up with the idea of using styrofoam we had in some boxes in the basement. I get to be "green" and save space. I measured how high the lifts in the back needed to be to still be able to see the books on the front shelf. I put the regular paperbacks on the back of the shelf. I put the quality paperbacks in front. I put books I enjoyed the least to the back of the shelves. The hardback books cannot be doubled up easily. With this system I was able to free up 5 shelves. I have empty shelves just waiting for the books to be bought. It is a great feeling. To celebrate, I bought some books!

I'm curious... do the employees of the B&N you frequent know you buy name and when you enter is it kinda like a Norm from Cheers phenomenon?
Reading this post and seeing those pictures has left me with one thought: I have SERIOUSLY underestimated your love for reading.
Munchkin-B&N employees do not know my name. I wish they did. That is what dreams are made of.
Mrs. my love of reading is ridiculous. It is a passion, a hobby, saves me when life gets difficult, a bit of an obsession. That is just a tiny taste of my book obsession. When we moved I got rid of tons of books.
