Why Do I Make Promises I Know I will Break???

There was a time I would not listen to audio books. Just could not get into them. I discovered if I listened to funny audio books it was easier for me to follow the story. Next I moved to what I consider light reading. There are still chunks of the story I miss but I get enough to follow what is going on. Unfortunately, driving uses some of my concentration. I can only devote about 75% of my attention to the story. Just kidding. I am sure I give at least 50% concentration to driving.
I still stand by my belief that listening to a book is not the same as reading a book. I have gotten so I can develop the characters listening to the audio but it is not like reading. When I started listening to books on audio I said the CD's would stay in the car....... Today, I got to work at a big point in the story. I stayed in my car listening as long as I could. I finally had to take the CD into work with me. I listened to a couple of the CD's while I worked. This is not a good thing. I was answering the phone, working on the computer, and people kept interrupting me with questions. How rude! Work related questions at work!!! On my way home I popped the CD back into my car to try and figure out where I left off. I discovered I missed big chunks because I was trying to do too much. I am going back to why I started the audio books. To pass the time in the car.
I have a problem with reading. When I start a book, I cannot put it down. I read obsessively. Sometimes I will finish a book too quickly. It feels like I did not really savour the story. If I can force myself to keep the CD's in the car, maybe I can learn to enjoy the story more.
I really feel like I have grown as a person. Learning to experience books through audio. To other snobby readers like me, do not be alarmed, I still consider books superior to audio. Not even in the same ballpark. If you spend hours a day in your car, give it a try. Think you will be pleasantly surprised.
What next? I think I am going to try podcast on my Ipod. Yes, I have an Ipod. I do not know how to find podcasts, but I will give it a try. I just keep growing as a person.
