Last night was the first meeting I had to miss for Page Turners. I was not even at work today to get a recap of how it went. As previously mentioned at the beginning of the month, our book was Grapes of Wrath. I did not get it done. I have read the book two times in my life. I still would have liked to read it again. I am sure the meeting went great. I read the discussion questions. They had a lot to discuss!!
I missed the meeting for Wednesday night baseball. Found out on my way home that the game was cancelled. Instead I watched all three of the kids so their parents could attend yoga and the after yoga party. I had a great time with the kids. Little Coco has decided she is not going to be pushed around by her older siblings. They were leaned against the couch watching a Titanic video and would not let her in. She started hitting and shoving. At one point when Tink was trying to get in front of Coco to get to me, Coco grabbed two handfuls of hair and pulled. Coco even slapped at my hand when I pointed my finger at her to say no. So much for our mellow baby. Time to go to sleep she did cuddle in my arms. She and her sister managed to fall asleep on my lap.
Here are a couple highlights of my evening with the kids. Tink was watching the Titanic documentary with The Kid. When the ship started to sink she said, "the Titanic is stinking." I love Tink talk. When we were discussing the cute monkey I gave Coco for her birthday, Tink said, "I don't like the mo-ka-hee, it scares me." Obviously, her mother got to her. That is an adorable toy.
Today it was off to my 3rd annual school trip with The Kid. This year was my favorite trip. We went to Sugar Grove Nature Center. It was a sunny, beautiful day. My favorite part was the bird room. I could have sat in there all day. At one point a hummingbird came right up to the feeder on the window. So great to watch it close up. My favorite bird was a indigo bunting. It is hard to believe a bird is that color. We saw yellow finch, two hummingbirds, woodpeckers, orioles, blue jay, barn swallows, hawk and I know I am missing some. You know that annoying kid that raises his hand or blurts out the answer to every question? That would be The Kid. Oldest tree in the world? Knew it. Largest tree in the US. Knew it. What was Illinois covered with long ago. Knew it. On and on and on........ The other parents were shocked. They want to take him home and see if he rubs off on their kids. Be careful what you wish for.
Really, it was an interesting trip. Even The Kid learned some new facts. He will drop that interesting trivia in the coming weeks to those not lucky enough to visit the Nature Center. Next best part of the day? We came home and cuddled into bed for a nice, cool nap. Mine did last longer than The Kids.
Looking forward to a relaxing day tomorrow. Just have a couple of things to do. Coco is spending some time with us while her Mom and big sister go on a walk with the second graders. Think I might be able to find a little time to read. I will keep you posted. (Ha, get it!)
