And The Winner Is......................

The Page Turner's will celebrate our one year anniversary in November. We wanted to do something fun to celebrate. We decided that everyone would submit a synopsis of a book, without a title. They all sent them to me. I put them together and sent them out to the club without names. The club voted on the entry. Here is the description of the winning entry:

A mentally retarded thirty-two-year-old man, is chosen by a team of scientists to undergo an experimental surgery designed to boost his intelligence. The man's teacher at a College Center for Retarded Adults, has recommended him for the experiment because of his exceptional eagerness to learn. The directors of the experiment ask the man to keep a journal. The book is composed of the "progress reports" that the man writes. This is an emotional story that is truly engaging.
This book was submitted by Rapunzel. I will toot my own horn, it was my suggestion. I read it in high school and again a few years ago. It is a fantastic book. And our November book is:

FLOWERS FOR ALGERNON

I look forward to us reading it and having a great discussion. I also look forward to finding out the names of a few more of the books.
Here are the submission I know:
Book 1 - The Art of Racing In The Rain by Yours Truly
Book 2 - Water For Elephants by Jersey Girl
Book 3 - Sara's Key - Rose
Book 4 - Do not know the name of the book by Two (Newbie)
Book 5 - Little Bee by the Bride to Be
Book 6 - Do not know the name, Stella
Book 7 - I had this book in my hand last week, can't remember the name by Old Lady
Book 8 - The Winner
Book 9 - House Rules by My Girl T
Book 10 - Easy Rider - What is the name of this book? I have to read it.
This was a great way to pick a book. We will be doing again. Maybe with some little changes. Every submission looked great everyone! Have a good week-end.

My book was A Single Man by christopher Isherwood. Since it didn't get picked it's going to be my February pick so if you want to wait until then. I left out in my description that the main character is George, a gay man living in California in the 60's. It's a beautifully written book and was actually the author's favorite that he ever wrote. Excellent book and the movie takes a few creative liberties but is equally excellent. I loved the book, it may be a little controversial for book club but it's going to be my next pick which I think is February.

I've read House Rules, Water For Elephants, and Sara's Key. I know the book Two picked is by the same author as Sara's Key. Now I have about 6 books to buy. I already own Flowers For Algernon. Have any of you read it?
