Reading Journal

I have a book journal. I keep track of what I read, the author, the date I read it, and my rating. I try to write a line or two about the book. Once in awhile I forget to write a book down. I am anxious to see how many books I read a year. This feels like a slow year. So far this year I have written down 61 books. I used to read more than that. This must be a reflection on the fact I have been finding other things to keep me busy. I guess that is a good thing.
I am very excited about the next book on my reading list. Mrs. if you have not read this, you need to put it on your list. The book is, Waiting For Superman, edited by Karl Weber. I heard about this documentary. The company I work for is promoting it. I read about it at work. That same day I went to the bookstore at lunch and found the book. That same week, Oprah talked about the documentary on her show. All signs point towards this is a book for me. The subject is The American Public School System. Our schools are in a crisis situation. Almost as many students drop-out as graduate. The grade school in our town is facing a crisis. We vote on a referendum in November. If it does not pass, our school will be in terrible shape. The students will lose all sports, band, art, chorus. Class sizes will get bigger. This is a very timely subject matter. I hope to get a chapter in tonight!
