Town Art

Today I went to the unveiling of a project that has been in the works for months. It was done under the umbrella of a town group I am involved in. Businesses could sponsor a dog. My family sponsored one of the dogs. There are 11 dogs. In the Spring they will be placed around town. The hope is that it brings more people into town. People can visit the town, go out to dinner, then take a walk looking at the beautiful dog art. Other towns have done it. Chicago has cows. The amazing thing is every dog is unique. The artists had unique takes on painting their dogs. I am not putting a picture of the dog that my family sponsored. I found it to be disappointing. We did not get to pick our artisit or what we wanted on the dog. We did get to pick the dog we wanted painted.
The reason my family decided to sponsor a dog is because when we were growing up our Dad had dogs. Many dogs. He raced them. It seemed like the perfect representation of our family roots. Something unique. I like being involved in the town. I am a big believer in the philosophy that who we are comes not just from family and friends but where we grow up. This is a part of my roots.
I am really looking forward to the Spring. Being able to take a walk on Main Street. See all the dogs. It is nice to be a part of something so positive for the town.
