Things are crazy, hectic at work right now. We have been moved around, yet again. Some days, I do not even see The Doctor. I see Willie passing me on his way to his new home. That leaves me and Stormy left from our group. I moved forward one cube and my old cube was left empty. Really? Does that make sense? It does not! On top of all the changes, we are very, very busy. That means overtime. That means long days!
To survive all these changes and the stress, I turned to books. I take my audio books in and listen while I work. The downside is, I have to pause quite a bit. It is easy to miss details. The upside is, I am surviving the stress. The noise level where I sit seems amplified right now. Gets to be too much!!!! The books are great, life-saving. That said, I listened to 3 books last week.
The first book was, Lowcountry Summer by Dorothea Benton Frank. It was just a story. Nothing special. I am not sure if it was suppose to be over dramatic to be funny or if that was really the way she writes. I can only rate it a 2. Not even going to describe it. I am not recommending it to anyone.
Millhouse mentioned that her book club is reading The Postmistress. I saw it on audio and picked it up. This book I recommend to everyone! I wish I would have read it. It is set in 1940 in the United States and Europe. It is about the life in a small town and how it is touched by the war in Europe. One of the main characters is the Postmistress. This is a must read. It covers so many things. Mrs., I'm sending this out to you. I know you will enjoy it. If any of you have already read it, let me know what you thought. If you have not read it, put it on your list. Let me know what you think. The Postmistress by Sarah Blake, I give a rating of 4.
The last book I listened to is, The Choice by Suzanne Woods Fisher. This book is set in Lancaster, PA around the Amish Community. If not for the Amish twist, it would be more of a love story. I really enjoyed the Amish angle. The choice is that when Amish children come of age they make the decision when they are ready to be baptized. Until they are baptized they can do some English things without being shunned from their church. The story is around one woman and everything she overcomes in a year. I would not put the book at the top of a must read list. If you have nothing else to read, and want to try something unique, pick it up. It was a great book for audio. I give it a rating of 3.
I am almost done with the Wally Lamb book. It is very good. I can already say, it is a must read.
