Oscar night! This used to be a big night in our house. Tru Stories and I would start watching as soon as the Red Carpet started. We would spend the entire evening talking; dresses, hair, movies. One year we spent almost the entire Oscars on a long distance call (at the time we paid for long distance) over two time zones watching the Oscars together. I might have cried a few times because we were not together.
My favorite Oscar night we traveled across the two time zones and Tru Stories and I watched Julia Roberts win her Academy Award. That was a big night for us. We are huge fans of Julia Roberts. We did not specifically plan that trip for the Oscars......but it did help pick the date of our vacation.
I sent Tru Stories a text a little while ago. "What do you think of the dresses?" Her reply, "What dresses?" Obviously, the Oscars have taken a step back in our lives. Not only do I not go to the movies, I do not rent movies. This year I saw: Eat, Pray, Love and Gnomio and Juliet (1/2 of it). I did not see either one nominated. I know, Gnomio and Juliet will not be nominated until next year. I was being silly. After I watch the awards tonight, I might find some movies I want to rent. Maybe I will find a book I want to read. How about a dress for next year's Relay for Life Dance?
There are movies I have not heard about. Actors I have never heard of. I will probably tear up during the memorial part. I will say, oh my gosh, so and so died. The sparkle has gone of the night, just a little bit. But I am not going to turn the channel. I can still recognize a star or two. I can sure recognize a nice dress!

How could Tru Stories miss her idol love Oprah on the Oscars! Shame on her! Hope you caught her Page Turner!
I saw Oprah. She looked beautiful. Tru Stories satellite went out. Last I knew she was not able to get the Oscars.
I will say it: the "young and hip" Oscars was, for me, "bizarre and not worth watching". Anne Hathaway and that guy who co-hosted ruined the night for me. Stick to movies, Anne. My vote: bring back Billy Crystal!
Even the dresses were a disappointment this year. Halle Berry was my hands down winner as best dressed this year.
I gasped at the thought of Tru Stories not watching the Oscars, I'm glad you cleared that up in the comments.
Early on when I sent Tru Stories a text, she was bathing her girls instead of watching the Oscars. So go ahead and gasp.....she was ridiculous.
Ok.... Tru Stories DVR'd the Oscars in order too... A.) Get her children ready for bed and B.) Skip the commercials and boring awards.
She did, watch every second of importance... at the least the seconds I was able to record due to the satellite.
I did see Oprah. And yes, beautiful.
Though really, her Day After special is nearly the most important part.
My Oscar thoughts:
Natelie Portman's earrings made me dizzy during her acceptance speech.
I loved the F Bomb.
Helen Merrin (sp?) had a BEAUTIFUL dress.
Gwyneth did not sing as well as I hoped/expected.
Halle... Best Dressed.
Jennifer Hudson.... glad you are skinny, put your boobs away.
Sandra B... I am Team You.
Love Tom Hanks.
Love Billy Crystal.
Anne H.. was ok.
James Franco... Useless.
After reading your review, Tru Stories, I've decided you and I should watch the Oscars together next year. Your thoughts were exactly the same as my thoughts!
