This was a nice story. When I saw the subject I thought it was going to be tragic. That was not the case. It is sad. Very sad. But the story is about a family that comes together to survive a tragic situation. It is a true story. Roger was an award winning, published author. This is his families story. Roger's daughter, Amy, dies at the age of thirty-eight. Amy was a gifted doctor, mother, and wife. She died from a very rare heart condition.
After Amy's death Roger and his wife, Ginny, move in with their son-in-law, Harris. They make the decision to help raise their grandchildren. They completely change their lives. They move from their large apartment to one room in their daughter's house.
These story is not sappy or sentimental. It is about everyday life. How grandparent's love can help heal their grandchildren. It is about parents coping with the death of their only daughter. It is a little book. It is very powerful. Roger writes the story of the past as part of his healing. I loved reading how they all created a new way of living. They had to relearn how to live without Amy. It ends up being a story about survival. The fact that people have to find a way to keep going. I give this book a 4. It is difficult to write such a sad story and not feel down after reading it. It is almost a book of hope. A positive reaction to a very negative situation.
A quick read with a powerful punch.
