Three Years

I heart books.  Heart reading books.  Heart talking about books.  Have for many, many years.  Always wanted a book club.  After reading The Shack I was looking for people to talk to about the book.  Easy Rider said, you should start a book club.  That is how it all began.  We had more members to begin with.  I knew it would whittle down.  Not everyone can commit to reading.
Last night there were six of us to celebrate three years.  Three of us at the meeting are original members.  Easy Rider was an original but she was home sick last night.  Old Lady, Jersey Girl, Easy Rider and I are all originals. We ate at CJ's.  That is one of our favorite spots.  We like round tables.  Easier for us all to talk.  We pick our anniversary book as a group.  Everyone submits the description of a book.  They do not put the title of the book with the description.  I compile all the descriptions and send them out.  We vote on the book we want to read based on only the description.  Fun way to do it.  We had some great stories submitted this time.  People brought their A-Game.
We read, A Light Between Oceans by ML Stedman.   The Old Lady submitted it.  I think it was the highest rated book of the year.  We rate the book before our discussion.  We rated the book a 4.3.  After our discussion we rate the discussion.  The discussion was rated 4.8.  It was a wonderful talk.  We had 16 questions.  We went through all of the questions.
This was an interesting, unique book.  Tom works in a lighthouse.  He meets Isabel.  They marry and she joins him on the island.  Their lighthouse is in a very isolated location.  Every six months a supply ship comes to the island.  Every three years they get a vacation off the island.  Tom and Isabel have their own world.  Both of them enjoy being away from their past lives.  The are happy together.  The big problem in their life is Isabel has several miscarriages.  The last one was very difficult.  She was far into the pregnancy.  Tom was up in the lighthouse.  Isabel goes through the miscarriage alone.  The losses are taking a toll on Isabel.
One day after the difficult loss.  A small boat washes to shore.  It contains a dead man and a baby.  The baby is alive but hungry and cold.  Isabel takes her into their home.  She warms her, she feeds her, then she names her.  Isabel assumes the Mother must have fallen overboard.  She convinces Tom they need to keep the baby.  Isabel names her Lucy.
That begins all the twists and turns.  There is good and bad.  What is right is not always clear.  There is dark, there is light.  There is conflict.  It starts slow.  Stick with it.  You will not be disappointed.
The Page Turners have read some good books, some poorly written books.  I have been pushed outside my comfort zone.  Hello Hunger Games just to name one.  Thanks to my Page Turner friends.  I really enjoy our time together.  Good food, good books, good friends!  Heart spending time with all of you.

I loved the book, and I loved knowing that even though I'm not a member of the book club I was reading along with you. Send me the questions - I'd love to get an idea of what your discussion was like! I can imagine this book led to great conversation.

Mrs. - pick a month this summer that you can take part in the club. We will meet at Country Mansion to discuss.
Millhouse - you could face time a meeting if you read one of our books.
