Help!!!

Next week The Page Turners meet.  At the meeting I need to announce the book for February.  I am having a terrible time trying to pick a book.  I have it narrowed down to too many.  I always have a fear of picking a lame book.  Open for some suggestions.  Anyone?  The BFF do you have something that is not Irish?  Mrs. - what do you have to offer up?
Thanks for the help.
Our January book was a bestseller, Gone Girl.  Anxious to discuss it.  If you have not read, put it at the top of your list.  It is a good one.  You can read about our meeting next week.
I like the way the TV networks are ending series in the middle of the year now.  I know it is so they can get more shows out there.  Two of my favorite shows ended this week.  Private Practice was a series finale.  Parenthood was a season finale.  That opens up two hours I normally waste on TV.  What I would like to do is NOT start watching new shows.  I do not think I have taken on any new shows for a couple of years.  Well maybe some reality shows.  What do I do instead of watching TV?  I shut the TV off.  Many years ago I figured out I do not need the background noise of TV.  The quiet is wonderful.  I can go hours without a TV on.  It feels liberating.  Without TV I can sit and read in the quiet.  I can go to bed early.  I have not tried it but I am sure the time could be used to cook or clean.  One day I might see if that works.  I challenge you to shut your TV off.  Enjoy the quiet.
I am still working on the HUGE Irish book.  Not very far into it.  Do not dislike it as much.  Not loving it yet either.  Hope I finish it this week-end.

Have you read any Bill Bryson? A Walk in the Woods and The Lost Continent are two of my favorites of his but I have really enjoyed everything I have read by him. I've never been a part of a book club so I don't really know what the "criteria" is or what you look for in a novel (although I thought Angela's Ashes was a mandatory book club novel?). Thanks for asking...it made me take a quick glance at my shelves and I pulled off The Great Gatsby which I want to revisit before the movie is released.

The BFF do you like coffee? We need to start e-mailing.
I have read A Walk In The Woods. Really enjoyed it. Have you read the female version? It is called like Wild or something like that. Reread Gatsby a few months ago. Putting Angela's Ashes on my "To Read" list.
Millhouse: I warned you BFF and I would end up friends. Think about you and I are alike. Of course she would like me too.

I read The Twelve Tribes of Hattie a month or so ago and thought it was good. Not great but okay; not exactly uplifting if that's what you're looking for. I am terrible at recommending books, mostly because I can never remember more than one book back what I've read. I scanned back through my Shelfari log and a couple caught my eye. You've probably read them already:

1. The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. Loved, loved, loved.
2. The Pillars of the Earth (I'm sure you've read this one, but if you haven't you're missing out. It takes dedication especially in the beginning, but this book is amazing.)
3. The Hour I First Believed. Must read. I love Wally Lamb.
4. Midwives. I'm starting to think every book I've mentioned so far is an Oprah book club book. Does anyone sense a reading pattern?
5. House Rules. I could read every Jodi Picoult book and never get tired of her writing style.
6. Any of the memoirs by Jennifer Lancaster. She started out as a blogger, and her snarky, sarcastic attitude keeps me entertained. A little self-righteous and rude sometimes, but she makes me laugh.
7. I have also heard amazing things about Tina Fey's autobiography. Haven't read it yet but would like too, maybe over the summer.

I've joined a "professional book club" at school - a group of about 18 staff members around the district are reading educational themed books to discuss. Our first is Readicide: How Schools Are Killing Reading And What You Can Do About It. Should be an interesting discussion! I'm not sure that's the reading material your club is looking for but it would definitely be a departure from your norm!

Mrs. - I tried to read Pillars of The Earth. Could not do it. Even though Oprah said it would be life changing.
I loved The Hour I First Believed. Wally Lamb is a great writer.
I have read Midwives a couple of times. Very good!!
I read all of Jodi Picoult. She is so good. She is going to be in Naperville in March.
Do not think I have read Jennifer Lancaster. Need to give her a try. I love sarcastic Jennifer bloggers.
I keep putting off The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. I judge it from the cover.
I will now get on Amazon and look at some of your suggestions. Thank you Mrs.

I like coffee! I can send and receive email! I'm officially requesting that AZ send all of my pertinent information to you immediately!
I haven't read the female version of it...I need to look into that.
Did you decide on a book yet?
