What Was I Thinking

This is what my life looks like now.  Every spare minute I am googling something about popcorn or candy or something to do with the business.  It is very time consuming, scary, and exciting.

One of the great things that has happened is all the support I have received.  People are so excited.  So many people are celebrating the fact I am going after a dream.  I even had a friend tell me if I throw a painting party and buy the wine, they will come and help me.  Sounds like a good deal.
One friend has a dream of publishing a book.  I have inspired her to make a schedule to seriously find time to sit down and write.  I love that!!!
Everyday people come up to me at work and ask how many days I have left.  The answer is 37 work days.  I am reminded daily the thing I have always loved about my job, the people.  Not "all" of the people.  But I have met some wonderful friends.
I am also getting so much advise. You need to have this, you need to have that. Chicago Style Hot Dogs, frozen pizza, sno cones, a tea room, ice cream.......it goes on and on. Not surprising, The Kid gave me a great idea. He reminded me of some wonderful soda we had on one of our vacations. Thrilled about that.
I am going to sell coffee.  Not the foofoo drinks.  Basic coffee, add in some flavors like hazelnut, vanilla.  Make it fun.  Have a couple of tables people can sit and read the paper.  Or a good book.
I had the greatest phone call last week.  My Millhouse called.  You know her as Arizona.  She said she was going to surprise me but thought she would tell me in advance.  She is flying in for the candy store opening.  Bringing her boys.  I am sure my new friend, Liz, will join her.  So many people are excited to share my dream. That is so cool.  The downside to this is OMG, I need to have this place ready when Millhouse arrives!!!!  No pressure.

I love this girl!

I do not want to leave out Tru Stories who has received more than a few texts, e-mails, and phone calls of:  What the heck was I thinking?  Why would I possibly think I could open a store?  She has offered many words of encouragement.
Did I mention I signed the lease?  I did.  Tomorrow I see a lawyer to get everything in order.  To quote several friends:  this is about to get realz!!

1. Please serve cheese popcorn. My mom will come visit if you have a cheese-caramel popcorn mix.

2. If you offer peach rings, I'll offer to work there in the summers only asking to be paid in unlimited amounts of peach rings.

3. I have no idea how to run or start a business, but I think the KISS philosophy is a good place to start (and not KISS as in spandex, but instead "keep it simple"). Let your costumer base drive your journey.

4. Do what you know. You know books and book clubs. Open your space up for that. Great opportunity to get people in that might otherwise not visit, as well as promote literacy in the community. WIN-WIN! Or team up with the school! An organization in our town offers an in school ice cream party as incentive to whoever reads the most in each class over spring break. Maybe you could do something like that (e.g., coupon for free treats, a mini party for the winners, basket of snacks, etc.).

5. Comfortable chairs = people stay longer.

Still so very excited for you. It's going to be great!

It is so laughable to me when my mother is called a hippy or a witch!!

Flag Girl found a place we need to visit to help with the color inspiration...

Have regular popcorn and then get seasoning... sometimes you can go places that have different seasonings they can sprinkle on themselves: cheese, garlic, carmel etc...
