Old Lady & Alice's Most Excellent Adventure - 1

Back Story:  Old Lady (OL) and I have a couple of friends that are moving to Arizona soon.  In addition, my sidekick (from afar) already lives in Arizona.  Remember, I call her Arizona.  Anyway, OL and I decided we need to take a trip to Arizona this summer.  OL says she will be retired from her Farm job by Summer.  I will believe it when it happens.  One evening OL and I were texting about our trip.  I mentioned it would be awesome to drive.  Make it a long trip.  There are a few places I would like to visit.  We started throwing out things we would like on the trip.  Making plans.  It was decided that planning the trip could be as much fun as taking the trip.  Arizona said she was cracking up imagining OL and I was Thelma & Louise.  So the story began.
Don't get me wrong, we will get to Arizona.  Will probably fly.  It won't be as much fun as the two of us driving.  While we are experiencing this cold weather it is the perfect time to start the story.  The story is fiction, based on fact.  You can guess which is real and which is not.

Chapter 1
Most people dream of taking an unplanned trip.  Just get in the car and drive.  Pick a direction and go.  Wake up one morning and decide this is the day I go.  I am not one of those people.  Part of the fun of a trip is the planning.  Making lists.  Looking at maps.  Planning is foreplay for a trip.  This is not an ordinary trip, this is "THE" trip.  The big one.  After winning the lottery I knew immediately it was time to start planning.  The first thing I did was call my friend, Old Lady.  I call her OL not because of her age, because of her wisdom.  She is like a wise sage.  She likes to use phrases like, "To have a friend, you need to be a friend."  A heavy rain is a......."Toad Strangler."  She calls me Alice.  This is from a character with Alzheimer's in the book, Still Alice. I told OL to pack her bags we were going on an adventure.  Not immediately, two weeks.  That gave both of us plenty of time to get organized.
While I organized food and comforts into the RV, the OL was busy with her organizing.  She started checking drinking laws.  We had already made the decision that evenings we would sit outside our home on wheels, have a drink, enjoy the beauty of the world.  I received a concerned message from the OL.  She was concerned that people that did not live in the State of Colorado could only buy alcohol six ounces at a time.  I mentioned that we do not need to drive through Colorado to get to Arizona.  OL said she wanted Colorado to be one of our side trips.  Luckily, we have the RV.  It has plenty of room for us to pack most of what we will need.  It is going to be difficult to anticipate what we will feel like drinking.  I like a good red wine.  The OL has a very eclectic taste for alcohol.  I have witnessed her ordering a Cosmo, a white Russian, even a Slo Gin Fizz.  Does the younger generation even know what that is?
Side Bar (ironic term):  My mother did not give me very much advice when I was growing up.  One bit of wisdom she passed along was:  Do not get drunk on slo gin.  It will be the worst drunk and hangover you will ever have.  I did not listen.  To this day I do not drink Slo Gin.  That might be a drink OL has to do alone.  Let the planning begin.

I love that our adventure will be shared with out friends. And yes, Arizona, that is what I heard which threw a wrench into my fire of the trip. I will have to investigate the laws of Colorado before we decide to make a side trip. I think while you are at work, you should start writing our novel, now what to call it......?????
