How it started.......

I have wanted to be part of a book club for years. I was invited to join one, just never got around to doing it. Then I read, The Shack. I had to find people to talk about this book with. I talked to a few of my reader friends, they had not read the book. That day, the book club started. Sent out a few e-mails, picked a date, I was the hostess, and the book to read, The Shack. It was that simple. Should have done it a long time ago. Simple rules, sign up for a month, hostess picks where we eat and the book to read. Hostess also has a list of questions to give out after the members finish the book. The questions prompt the discussions at the meeting.
The club has evolved already. At the first reading we decided we would rate the books. We have met four times already. Now we know there are times we do not "love" the book, but have great discussions anyway. We figured out the rating was based just on the book, it was also about the discussion. At our next meeting, before the discussion, we will rate the book. After the discussion, we will rate the discussion.
Our club is made up of ten members. We started out with more. The greatest strength of our club is our diversity. Our ages range from 20's-50's. Singles, married, divorced, all bringing diverse views and thoughts to the meeting. It also means we are not reading the same genre of book each month. Ten people can read the same book and we can get ten takes on the subject. We all work together. We are not all, hang-out together friends. That does not matter at the meeting. We all share the love of reading, more importantly, the love of discussing what we read. When the meeting is over, I feel wonderful. Never ready for it to end. Always looking forward to the next read.
This blog will allow me an outlet to talk about books more than once a month. I look forward to input from followers (hope there will be followers). Could be a great way to find out about the next book I want to read.
Welcome to the Page Turner Society!
