For The Kids

I share my reading passion. First I shared it with my children. Now I share it with my Grandchildren. I signed my grandson up for his first book club before he was born. When he was very small, I bought this book. The number of times his mother and I have read this book is ridiculous. I hope he heard this book enough that when he finds out he is going to have a child, he immediately has to run out and buy it. Just to have it ready. I love Sandra Boynton. Her books have silly rhymes that work. The illustrations are sweet. They are short so if this becomes a favorite book, at least it is a quick read.
When I was on my buying binge the other day, I had to buy books for my babies. My grandson was easy, he likes chapter books. I bought him one about sports. Coach, I am trying to nudge him your way. My grandchildren usually like books above their age. For the 3 yr old I bought a book about her current favorite place, Chicago. I knew this would be a hit. Plenty of photographs of places she visited this summer. For the little one, I wanted to get a Sandra Boynton. I went with Pajama Time. The story is so cute. I have bought them a couple of her other books. Nothing they latched onto like Moo La. As predicted all the books were a huge hit. The Grandson immediately started reading his book. The Chicago book

was a hit. I stared reading Pajama Time to the baby. Next thing I knew there were two little girls on my lap enthralled by this book. I read it over and over. It was obvious the baby had lost her book. (In my head this book is done in a rap style. I'm trying to find someone to do a video for me. Seriously! It feels like it needs to be done. So when you read it, think rap.) When children love books, they cannot share the books. It was back to the book store yesterday for a second copy of Pajama Time. Now each of the girls have one. It is adorable. We had a pajama party the other night in celebration of the book.
Still on a book buying binge, The Belly Button book managed to land in my stack too. It did not catch on like Pajama Time. Very cute story, but not going to be special. To be fair, my grand kids love being in their pajamas. It is a way of life for them. The winter has been so long, they are constantly in footie pajamas, they probably do not remember they have belly buttons! If you are looking books for little ones, look to Sandra Boynton. Read it before you buy it, you need to like it in case you find yourself reading it 10,000 times in the next few years!

Pajama time has been on our bookshelves since Shortcake was born. Both girls have loved it, and yes, it's totally better when read as a rap.
