A very close friend of mine is having a baby. We started work at State Farm on the same day. There are more than 20 years between us, yet we have a very strong bond. One of the many things we share is a passion for books. She moved away about 5 years ago, but we still try to stay connected. I just sent Baby Chicken a gift box of books. Had it shipped from Barnes & Noble. So here is the letter that should have gone with the books.
Dear Baby Chicken,
If your Mommy did not live so far away, you would already know my voice. Mommy and I would be having deep talks during our lunch about her expectations and dreams for your life. Lucky for your Mommy that she is far away, because I would be wanting to rub her belly while we talked. That would not make your Mommy happy!
My very first gift to you had to be books. Books are such a personal gift. The books I sent you are filled with love and traditions from my family. Books I have spent hours and hours reading to the important people in my life. I hope one of those books becomes your favorite bedtime book.
I sent you the Elves and The Shoemaker. That was my daughter's favorite book growing up. She loved the Elves coming to make The Shoemaker's life better. As an adult, she wonders where those elves are in her life. Be great if they showed up to tidy up her problems. Make everything better.
Quick as a Cricket is not just a great read but has beautiful pictures. This was my son's favorite book. I still have his copy and read it to my grand children. I have bought this book for many people throughout the years. Children love this story. I can come close to reciting it from memory.
Moo Baa Fa La La was a book I bought for my grandson. Your Mommy will be happy if this is your favorite bedtime book. Very quick book to read. Even if you say, "Please read it again." Mommy needs to get her animal sounds ready for this book.
I just bought Pajama Time a couple of weeks ago for my grand daughters. This is such a cute story. Worth repeating that it needs to be done in a Rap style. Maybe your Daddy can work on that.
The book from me is Guess How Much I Love You. Very simple, it is because I love you already.
These will not be the last books you receive from me. I know you will have a huge library. You are a very lucky baby. Your Mommy & Daddy both love to read. I know you will share that passion. I am not your Grammy, or even Aunt. Hopefully, you will know me through the books I send. They will all be filled with my love and traditions.
Love you already Baby Chicken.

Baby Chicken: It is fine to like Moo, Baa...but please do not adopt this as your most fav book...your parents will lose their minds if they have to read it twice a day. And sometimes, I think your mom may be a little nutty in the first place.
Except, that will work in your benefit. It is fun to have a nutty mommy!
Good luck, Baby Chicken, many people already love you!
