I have been reading many books. It helps me not confront life issues. I noticed The Bride had a book mentioned on Facebook, Dairy Queen by Catherine Gilbert Murdock. I downloaded it on my Kindle for just a few dollars. It is the first book in a trilogy. I will get the other two next week. I gave the book a 3. It might have been generous. If I used halves, I might have given it a 2.5. But I do not use halves.
It was a light read. High school girl, DJ, lives on a dairy farm in Wisconsin. I love dairy farms in Wisconsin. Since I went to Wisconsin twice over the summer I saw some nice farms. DJ is doing most of the chores on their farm since her father injured his hip and has not had it replaced. She milks, hays, cleans up. It is tough work for a high school girl. It also interferes with her real life. DJ does it because it is what is expected of her.
DJ's family has been very involved in football. Her Dad was an assistant coach for a time. Her two older brothers were stars. DJ knows the game very well. One of their family friends is the coach of the rival high school team. He asks DJ if she will help train his quarterback. He has talent, just no work ethic. DJ has too much work ethic. Brian shows up to help on the farm. He and DJ do not hit it off. He is a popular kid, she is not. Eventually, they figure out that DJ would be good at training Brian. They are able to help each other.
This is a cute little story. Could be made more for younger readers. But, I enjoyed it. Nice to have light reading.
The last book I read was, The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks. I also gave this a 3. Old Lady you will like this. You love the big endings. The main part of the story is predictable. High school loves from the wrong side of the tracks. They were split apart by rich girl's family. Their lives do not go as planned. Twenty-five years later they are brought back together by the death of a mutual friend. This part of the story is fairly predictable. Big ending.
I am at 70 books for the year. Think I have a few on my Kindle left to read and a couple of quality paperbacks. I am not sure I will get in 30 more books. But, you never know.
