One of the best books I have ever read is Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick. I rated it a 5. I recommend it to people all the time. It had so many twists and turns. Reading it was a wild ride. I never knew where it was going. It was the first book that Robert Goolrick had published. I have been waiting for his second book.
I was excited when I found Heading Out To Wonderful. I was expecting so much from it. I was afraid that after the first book I would be disappointed. I was. I enjoy the way Robert Goolrick writes. His descriptions are good. They seemed to drag on in this book. There were parts of Heading Out To Wonderful that were really good. Overall I was disappointed. There were so many things I thought were left unanswered. Some great characters that were never really developed.
In the summer of 1948 Charlie Beale shows up in Brownsburg, Virginia. He has two suitcases. One is full of his possessions. One is full of money. The money part was never really explained in the story.
Charlie gets a job as a butcher. He begins to buy land. He becomes involved in the village. He falls in love with the wealthiest man in the village's wife. This is where the story of obsession and love gone wrong begins.
I have not given up on Robert Goolrick. I still enjoy his writing. I will read his next book. Unfortunately I rate this one a 2.
