I was happily able to attend our Page Turner meeting last night. We met at Café Italia. I think we have met there 3 or 4 times. So delicious! Last night I had the pizza. WOW! The crust was wonderful. It was crispy. Not crispy overcooked. Perfect. One of the best pizzas I have ever eaten. I do not think that place is capable of cooking anything that is not delish!! Plus it has a great atmosphere. We were glared at several time by a stuffy older woman. Our laughter must not have be classy enough for her.
I took appetizer candy and after dinner fudge for the group. The candy is one of the favorites at Coco's right now, dark chocolate covered sea salt caramels. Such an interesting taste. An expensive little treat but well worth it.
Everyone enjoyed the book. There were a few complaints that it went on and on a bit much. I totally disagree. I could not get enough of the story. I even read the author's notes at the end. A sure sign that I am not ready to be done.
The Aviator's Wife by Melanie Benjamin was given an overall rating by the group of 3.75. I think that was low. I gave it a strong 4. We had a good discussion. It is a book that opens up so many possible discussions. What was real, what was fiction. The difference in a marriage from that time. How women kept or lost their own identity.
This is a book I strongly recommend. I actually enjoy history when a bit of fiction is thrown in. Much more interesting.
