After not even one week of blogging, it is shocking for me to realize that people are reading my blog. Not just reading my blog but asking for suggestion about what they should read. Here are a few of my top books for 2009. I did not start keeping the book journal until April. It is possible that I read some great books before I started keeping track.
I loved this book. It is a sad, short read. If you are looking for something upbeat, this is not the book for you. Read this book when you are in the mood for a great story. It is about children that meet and form a friendship at a concentration camp. It can easily be read in a few hours. The depth of the story hangs on much longer.

This book was recommended by a teacher I had in high school. Her recommendations are always great. It is a quirky story about a circus. There really are elephants. The story is interesting. The book flows well but is one that you will want to put down and come back to it. It was not an easy read, but it was a wonderful book.

Not sure how I heard about this book. It is a sad story. It starts in 1942 when little girl's family is arrested in Paris. It ends in 2002 when a jounalist is decorating her apartment and finds history regarding the family. I do not suggest reading The Boy in The Striped Pajamas at the same time as this book. Both deep and sad stories.

This book was recommended to me by my Doctor. Whenever I see her we swap "must reads" with each other. This story is set on Guernsey Island in 1946 during the German occupation. A group forms a "book club" to cover for sharing food and spending time together. I have not read a story like this before. The characters are interesting. Their spirits are strong.

I already talked about The Shack and Loving Frank. I think I would rate those as my two favorite books of 2009. I hope at least one of these books ends up on your top list for 2010.

I planned on watching "Boy In The Striped Pajamas" tonight. Now I'm thinking I should read the book first. I could not put down "Water for Elephants" when I read it two years ago. Mrs. MC was a big fan too and I'm trying to convince Munchkin she should try it again (hated it the first time she started it).
i gave you Sarah's Key ;)
-Mrs & Munchkin: I too hated Water for Elephant's first time around, I was forced to read it for our book club, so glad i did. it really is a great story!
