Saturday at the Library

Today I took my two older grand kids to the library. We love books. We have a beautiful library. It is an old carriage house that was converted to a library. The grounds are great. The library is huge. Downstairs is the adult library. Upstairs is the children's library and meeting room.
If you know me, you know I am not big on library books. I like to know where my books have been. But I have decided to give books on CD another try. I have two hours in the car everyday. May as well have some entertainment. I have tried books on CD before. Do not get the same enjoyment as I do from reading books. I am willing to give it another try. Only for light reading. I picked up two books. It only took me a few minutes. I knew the kids would spend more time looking.
This is the reading house in the middle of the children's library. After the kids found their books we spent some time sitting in here. To the 3 year old, this is great stuff. This was her first time checking out books. She said, "is this a bookstore?" Spoiled much! I explained we were just borrowing these books. (Gross!) She was thrilled to take her three books home. Hopefully, she will be just as happy to take the books back to the library.
I loved the library when I was a kid. I can remember going alone. Grabbing a book and sitting in there reading. I still love the feeling of being in the library. To quote my grandson, "It is the best place to go, if you love books." We do love books.

Don't hold it against me. Really, I did it for the kids. You know it is not my thing. I am only listening to the books in my car. Don't snub me. As soon as I get back from the store, I am picking up a real book.

I spent more time at the library on summer days as a kid than anywhere else. My friends used to get annoyed with me when I declined to join them at the pool and instead chose to ride my bike to the air conditioned library to spend the day making bookmarks and roaming the shelves of books. This was at the old school library, long before the carriage house was converted. I haven't been there since the new children's library was done. I'll have to put that on my list of things to do this summer with our girls (who also have an obsessive love of our local library).
