We arrived to our first destination on our long vacation. We made better time than we ever have and there were two cars of family. We arrived in Boulder in time to get a hotel and have a much needed swim to unwind. I have not been to the Rockies in years. I remembered they were beautiful. I had forgotten that they are breath takingly beautiful.
We had a short drive through Boulder to find our hotel. We passed a huge IBM office, a Celestial Seasoning office, one of the BIGGEST Barnes & Nobles I have ever seen. It looked to have at least two floors. At that point I was looking for hotels and was not suppose to be staring open mouthed at Barnes. We might go by it again. I saw the GOOGLE home office. That was fun to see. Google is written on the building just like it is on the site.
We are staying in a environmentally friendly, green hotel. They have 0% waste. I do not know what to do with everything. We have some waste. What should we do with our pizza boxes? What about when I blow my nose? I made the decision to use toilet paper and low flow flush it. I took a shower. I get it, I get it, we want to save the Earth's water blah, blah, blah. When I pay this much for a hotel, I want a shower that could knock me over with water pressure.
We are only in this hotel one night. Tomorrow we check out and go to higher country. We need Coach and The Kid to be BLOWN AWAY by mountains. We are still too low for them to "get it." We are taking a canyon drive and having a picnic. We will do a short hike. This early on the trip most of us have noticed the high altitude with dizziness, shortness of breath. Not Coach, he is a finely tuned athlete. He seems just fine.
For those of you that were wondering, is it cooler here? It was 97 when we were in Eastern Colorado. When we started climbing towards Boulder it dropped to 87. It was not a huge, noticeable difference. The humidity is soooooo much lower. Last night in Western Iowa with flooding up next to the Interstate, the humidity was unreal. We just wanted to get out of town as soon as possible.
I do not anticipate any Friday the 13th things bothering us tomorrow. We will be looking at some amazing scenery. Sharing with our family. Know that even though my son could not handle a trip like this, he is being well cared for at home. We are going to have a great day. Hope you do too.
