Reading Marathon

I finished two books this week. Last night I finished, Oxygen by Carol Cassella. This was a different story. I enjoyed it. I was into this book immediately. This is a first time author. Dr. Marie Heaton is an anesthesiologist at the height of her profession. She is really into her career. The story covers hospitals being under staffed. Doctors working too many hours. Dr. Heaton loses a child on her operating table. She has to face a lawsuit and try to explain and live with what happened. The secondary story is Marie facing a health crisis with her father. Loneliness in her own life. The story has a few interesting twists and turns. At one point I thought I knew how it would end, then the author fooled me. I am going to give this book a rating of 3.5. The book club knows normally I do not believe in halves. The problem is, I am stuck in a rut of 3. This book is not quite an OMGosh, it is so wonderful. But it is more than a fairly good read. I will suggest this book to you if you want a unique story. A nice afternoon read. Not too deep.

Next I read Charlie St. Cloud. I think I have picked this book up and put it down 5 times. I finally bought it. I do not like to watch movies without reading the book first. It is by Ben Sherwood. I watched this movie in my head as I read the book. The author writes very visual descriptions. I felt like I was in the story. Charlie causes a car accident that kills his younger brother Sam. By a miracle Charlie is saved. He is destined for something special. But Charlie made a promise to Sam that he would never leave him. He spends every night with Sam's spirit that he can see. Charlie lives in an in between world. He never quite lives his own life because he cannot let go of Sam. Finally, Charlie meets Tess. He is instantly attracted to her. As she is to him. Charlie has to make a choice between past and future.
This will be a cute movie. If you think you will go to the movie. Read the book first!!! I will give the book a 3.
I am on target to read at least two more books this week-end. This week-end is all about me and relaxing. I might have found some family time. Carved out some time for the grandchildren.
I even watched a movie today. Paused it to take a nap. It is related to a book. A book I read a long time ago called, Dear John. The movie skimmed over quite a bit that was in the book. They usually have to. I do not think the movie ended the same as the book. I will have to go back and look. It was a sweet little movie. Did not feel like I wasted my time. Glad I did not see it at the theatre. It is not worth $20.
Hope you all are having a relaxing week-end.
