Sunday when I feared I had run out of books to read, I remembered I have a shelf piled with books to read. There are several brand new books that I forgot about and some books given to me. I found a little book called, The Girl Named Zippy by Haven Kimmel. This is the story of Haven's life growing up in a tiny little town in Indiana called Mooreland in 1965. This was a cute book. I started reading it on my lunch Monday at work. It was awkward because I was sitting alone in the cubicle, laughing my head off. There are parts of the book that are hilarious!!
Haven Kimmel is a great story teller. I think most of what she writes are based on facts with wonderful embellishing going on. I could identify with small town life and the period that Haven grew up. It was an amusing book. Only 275 pages but there were pictures. In addition the margins were large.
It is nice to read a few light weight books. Do not have to look for any deep meanings. No symbols. The Old Lady tells me she just reads books. No need to over think what they are about. This book was just a story. Sweet story. I think I even imagined it in black and white. Reading is so wonderful. It can take me back in time. The 1960's in a small town were a great time to be alive. Not many books can make me laugh out loud. I love it when I find one that does!!!
The count is: 29
