Midwives by Chris Bohjalian

Starting the 2nd week of February and I am already one book down.  I would like to get ahead of my reading schedule before summer.  That's right I am already anticipating summer!
Midwives was on my list of must reads.  I think I found it on a list of books to read.  As soon as I started it, the story was familiar to me.  I was not sure if I read it or something like it.  I had a Doctor's visit on Friday, she said it is an old book and there is also a movie.  So I am not sure if I read the book or saw the movie.  I could not remember the ending so it must have been quite awhile ago.
Even if I did read it, it was worth reading again.  The story is about a Midwife, Sybil.  She has been a midwife for years, very good at it.  One birth changes all of that.  It ends in tragedy.  The book is told through Sybil's journal and her daughter's thoughts.
The story touches on most doctor's not agreeing with home births.  Also showed that most people did not considering home births something that mainstream people would do.  It was considered more of a free spirit type thing or something a hippie type would do.
I enjoyed the read.  If you have not read it, it is worth the time.
I am thinking of getting rid of some of my books.  Anyone out there want to get into a book swap?  Let me know.

Loved this book! You're really starting out 2011 with some good reads. I just started the second to last Harry Potter book (gotta cross that off my Bucket List) and then it's back to my Kindle. First up: The Poisonwood Bible.

I have not read it. Anxious to hear what you think. We should start a book club. I read enough books I could handle two!

Just to let you know, they have come out with the Harry Potter movies. So I guess I solved a problem.

Thanks for the warning, Easy Rider (ps - new name please for your friend, Page Turner, it feels wrong referring to such a lovely person as that name). I held out for so long, but once I caved to the Twilight craze I figured what the hell. It was all downhill from there anyway. I like to tell people I'm screening it for appropriateness for my daughter but secretly I'm loving it. In fact, I'm off to read some more right now!

And don't worry, Coach. The HP movies are already loaded into my Netflix account.
