The Page Turner's had a meeting last night. We met at the Olive Garden. Yummo!! It was delicious. We had a wonderful time. We are down to six members, all were in attendance. We really had a good time. There was loud laughter. Lots of talking. We sprinkled in some alcohol. It was a great evening.
Our book was, Come Home by Lisa Scottoline. I rated the book a 4. Everyone else gave it a 3. One complaint that was voiced was that there was not a likable character in the book. I have to agree that books are better when I get attached to a character. A few people felt like the book was choppy. They did not think it flowed well. When I find an author I really enjoy, I can see the books through rose colored glasses. I enjoyed the story. It was unique. I liked the theme of blending families. I thought most of the characters were flawed. That made the story more real. We had a good discussion.
We also talked about 50 Shades of Grey. All of us read at least one of the books. This book provided quite a bit of laughter for us. The Old Lady said her Grey looked like Tom Selleck. There is not a man alive that the Old Lady cannot squint her eyes enough to see Tom Selleck. He is her guy. Him and Steven Tyler. I am not sure I want to see the movie. The point of the book is to use the imagination. The fact that we have young girls and us older Women discussing these books, keeps it interesting. I have read book 1. I was given Books 2 & 3. I will probably do some more reading. I was told there is more story in the next two books. I am not 100% sure that is a good thing!
Old Lady announced our book for June. It was a great announcement. Oohs and aahhs. The books is, Great Gatsby. I am excited. I wish we could all meet at The Country Mansion. Get Tru Stories and The Mrs. to join us for a great discussion of this classic. Think about it girls!
I do not think I have mentioned lately how much I love being a part of this book club. You girls are awesome. Members have left. New members have joined. We keep rolling with the punches. Reading our books, have some laughs and eating some fantastic food. What it is the saying:
"Grow old with me and be my friend. The best is yet to be." Something like that. Here is too many more years of The Page Turners!!!
