I need to update some pictures of my sweet Sassy. She is really getting big. Not big compared to the dogs we usually own. Big compared to what a little dog she started out as.
The Hubby has taken a liking to her. He will pick her up and pet her. He likes to play catch with her. I think he enjoys how happy she always is to see him. To me the big selling point of a little dog. Whenever I get home Sassy is super excited to see him. It is like she was sure I was never going to come back. It is nice to be so loved and appreciated.
Now the downside to a little dog. Potty training is not going as well as I would like. I understand she is only 5 months old. That is still very young. I don't mean she just pees all over. I think over the week-end she had one puddle. Now Christmas Day when the TS family was here, she just kept leaving surprises. I am not sure if it was the excitement of her sister coming to visit (does not happen often, we all pee a little from the thrill) or all the commotion from the hyper children. I started out letting her sleep with me. I have pads down but I am still paranoid she is going to pee in the bed. She did have an accident once. Well hard to call it an accident. She jumped on top of me and just let loose. I guess I can be happy it was on me and not the bed. But, not so much happy first thing in the morning. I would like for Sassy to walk freely through the house without worrying about her having an "accident."
The other day Tru Stories was making fun of Sassy, they have a bit of sibling rivalry going on. She said something about next thing you know she will be walking around in diapers. Got me thinking, why not. I am not crazy. I will not have her in diapers all the time. Nothing wrong with using a diaper at night. I have not been letting her sleep with me. I wake up all the time paranoid she is going to go in bed. I need my sleep. I feel guilty caging her at night. She is in a cage off and on during the day while I work. Hubby refuses to watch her all day. What? Yes, he is selfish.
Anyway, today after work I stopped at the pet store. Needed to pick up a few supplies. Thought I would try a pack of disposable diapers and two cloth diapers. The cloth diapers are a little big. I put one on her. She immediately dropped her head and looked humiliated. Seriously, how would she know she looked silly? She was so desperate to remove the diaper she went into her cage. I heard the velcro as she ripped it off. She just stayed in the cage hiding. Before bed I am going to try one of the disposable diapers. I don't want her in the cage. We will see how it goes.
I was trying to train her with a bell. It is hanging next to the door. The trick is for her to ring it when she wants to go outside. Not really working. She has rang the bell about four times. Not sure how many were accidents.
She still only knows two tricks. She can sit. She can stand on her hind legs and walk. I call it dancing. She is AdorAble. She can also fetch. That is not so much a trick as a game. I have never been able to teach a dog to roll over. Going to start working on that.
I will get some updated pictures up soon. I know you Sassy fans will be begging.

Our friends have a goldendoodle and she had a bit of a peeing problem as well. She was potty trained, but if someone came to the house she got so excited she'd leave a not-so-little puddle on the floor. Picture it: jet black dog, rhinestone studded collar, white disposable diaper. It was the funniest thing I've ever seen, but it worked and she eventually outgrew the excited pees (after, like, two years). Good luck!
Hilarious!
i think the poor dog going into her cage w/ the diaper on is her saying... seriously?? i would rather be a caged dog than wear a diaper!
and of course they know when they look ridiculous.
once, barley got a really bad haircut & he hid under the couch for 2 weeks!
