The second book of the year was, A Friend of The Family by Lauren Grodstein. This was a Kindle Special. I only paid $1.99 or $2.99 for it. What a great surprise this book turned out to be. The story was centered around Dr. Pete and his family. When the story starts Dr. Pete is alone and estranged from his family. The reader finds out he did something terrible. We just do not know what he did. I was hooked within a few pages of this story.
The books starts in the present and works backwards. The story continues to build to what Dr. Pete did. It is about Dr. Pete, his wife, and son. It also includes their neighbors and close family friends. The neighbors daughter commits a terrible act and everything unfolds from that. It is one of the stories that are filled with twists and turns. I did not figure out what it was the Doctor did.
I cannot get into too many details or the story will be spoiled. It was a great way to start my reading year. I rated the book a 4. Download it, you will not be sorry.
I have several books lined up to read. A friend gave me the book, A Dublin Student Doctor by Patrick Taylor. It is the first book in a series. Normally I do not enjoy Irish series. I have no idea why. Maybe I will be surprised. I have downloaded a book that my niece wrote called, Escaping Neverland. Very exciting to see the family name on a book. The Page Turners are reading, Gone Girl this month. Anxious to get to that too. So much to read, so little time. Looking forward to another great year of reading.
