Things I Want My Daughters To Know by Elizabeth Noble

This book was a suggested read to me by Millhouse.  She was reading it.  We like to pretend we are reading books together.  Very, very far away from each other.  Normally, I will finish the book long before Millhouse.  Not this book.  I think I started reading it a couple of months ago.  I could not get into the story.  It started out very slow.  The development of the characters seemed to take forever.  I put it down and tried to pick up the reading a few times.  Nothing.  Finally, last week I decided I was going the finish the book.  I was about half-way through the book when it grabbed me.  I started enjoying the characters.
Barbara is married to Mark.  He is her second husband.  She and Mark have one daughter, Hannah.  Barbara had three daughters when she married Mark.  The story is about Barbara's death and the year that follows her death.  Barbara left a journal and letters to her family.  We learn about Barbara through the journal, the letters and her family remembering their life together.
The book focuses how how the family copes with losing Barbara.  They all face turmoil in the following year.  In their personal lives and as a family unit.  After the loss of their Mother they lose focus on their lives.  Once the characters were developed, I hated to put the book down.  If I had a few minutes, I was reading.  I have read other stories by Elizabeth Noble.  I enjoy her books.  This would be a great book to discuss at book club.  I just do not know how many people would make it through the book.    This would be a time that the discussion would rate higher than the reading of the book.
I rated this book a 4.  If it had not started out so slow, it would have been a 5.
