This morning I started my drive to work at 5:30 am. There are days I do not notice anything around me. Then there are days like today that I look around and know that something bigger than us created this world. Some people do not appreciate the beauty of our state. I do not think they are looking hard enough.
Before I was out of town I knew this was a special morning. The sun was not completely up but it was light. The early morning sun made the surrounding fields look like they had been freshly painted. The golds just popped out. The corn fields were amazing. Then I looked over at the field of windmills. Many people do not like the way the windmills altered the landscape. I love to watch them. Today only a few were moving and they were moving verrrry slowly. There was a slight fog, more like a mist coming up off of the ponds and creeks. That enhanced the already magnificent morning. When the sun came up it was that pink/purple color that can only be seen at sunrise or sunset. That color cannot be duplicated.
Two weeks ago I discovered a unique change in the scenery. Amongst the corn and beans is a field of sunflowers. I look forward to it everyday on my drive. If it were not on my way to work, I might stop to take a picture. Every morning I stay alert so I do not get caught up in my drive and forgot to look over at all that sunshine in a field.
I really am not a morning person. I wish I was able to jump out of bed ready to start my day. It is never going to happen. I take time to wake up. It is a slow process. For the next few weeks I will look forward to that part of my drive. It is a great way to start my morning.
Remember to take a few moments in your day to appreciate your surroundings. It really does help start the day off on a positive note.

I saw the sunflowers on the way to my parents' house last weekend. Beautifully situated among the standard landscape of corn and beans, it was the unexpected highlight of my trip that day too!
