A Productive Week of Reading

This week was a busy reading week for me.  I read three books and enjoyed them all.  The first was our book club pick, What You Have Left by Will Allison.  I cannot give my review until after our meeting.  I will say it was a unique, interesting read.
I feel bad saying I liked the next book.  It was so tragic.  No Daddy, Don't, by Irene Pence.  This is a true story about an abusive husband.  It happened in Texas.  It is so terrible that this could have taken place,  It is a story of a man that kept getting away with spousal abuse, stalking, and harassment for 17 years.  In 2001 he kills his two little girls while they are on the phone with their mother.  Part of the reason he seems to get away with the abuse is he was a clean cut, good looking guy.  He had once modeled.  He was a master manipulator.  The women he abused could not get any protection from him.  It was very sad to read.  Very shocking to read.  I do not want to rate this story.  If you like true stories, this is true.
The book I read today was, Happy Birthday by Danielle Steel.  It was somewhat unique for a Danielle Steel story.  No one ended up a widow or widower.  The focus is on three people that share the same birthday.  A mother and her daughter, and a retired pro-football player.  It was a sweet love story.  Nothing earth shattering to the story.  A nice way to spend a lazy Saturday.  I had no motivation to do anything today but lay around.  I just shut the TV off and read.  Very relaxing.  I am not going to lie, there was a nice nap in the middle of my day.  Book reading was my only accomplishment.  Nothing wrong with that once in awhile.  I rated the Danielle Steel book a 3.
