I have not been writing about my books but I have still found time to read. I just finished my 74th book of the year. This book was recommended to me from a great support to me, Hockey Grandma. She has recently found her way back to reading. She suggested The Mill River Recluse by Darcie Chan. This was a Kindle deal. I think it was $1.99 to download. Love to find the deals that end up being such good reads.
This book is interesting. It is really two stories woven together into one. Enjoyed the way it was written. I could not stand to put it down. I think it was a 1 day read for me!
Mary McAllister was disfigured by the blow of an abusive husband. She suffered her entire adult life from severe social anxiety disorder. She spends almost sixty years in her white marble mansion overlooking the town of Mill River. Part of the story is about Mary. It is about what caused Mary to be afraid of people, her marriage, and living out her life as a recluse. The other part of the story is about residents of Mill River. Most people in Mill River think of Mary has a crazy recluse. They are curious about her but do not know her. Residents of Mill River brought into the story are members of the police department and their families, a teacher, and the town Priest.
The story flows easily from past to present. It is well written and easy to follow. Hard to put down and a great way to lose yourself in a story. Originally I rated it a 3. When I started writing about it, I decided to give it a 4. I liked the way several stories were blended.
Thanks Hockey Grandma! It was a great way to spend a day.
