I wish it were sunny today. I wish I could take my grand kids for a nice hike along a river. Play outside and laugh. Enjoy some of the last days on Earth. What? Whaat? Yes, I'm sorry. I'm not sure if this is one of the signs in the Bible. In my home it feels like one. Last night, Hubby asked me to order him a (this is hard to even say without laughing) a book!! Seriously. I buy him books at Christmas. I always feel like I can find the perfect book and he will become a reader. Never happens. In all the years I have known him (which is tons), Hubby has never read a book. Textbooks do not count. Now, on his own, Hubby asked for a book.
The book is: Things That Matter by Charles Krauthammer.
Here is a brief description:
From America’s preeminent columnist, named by the Financial Times the most influential commentator in the nation, the long-awaited collection of Charles Krauthammer’s essential, timeless writings.
Could this be a turning point in Hubby's life? Doubt it. Could my greatest fantasy of all time come true? (This is where Hubby and I cuddle on the couch reading together. No TV in the background.) Never going to happen. The reality is, this book will come back to haunt me. If he reads it, I will be listening to his political rants for hours and hours and hours. I know what you are thinking. Just don't order him the book. If I don't order it, he will never buy it. He would not even know how to go about finding a book to buy. He sure would not think of the library. (I'm laughing super hard right now thinking of Hubby at the library.) As much as I don't want to listen to his political lectures, I have to buy the book. Why? Because - I love reading so much, I want everyone to love it too. I know if Hubby did read his life would be so enhanced by it. (Even if he reads stupid books.) Reading gets the brain working. It is a great thing. Today after work, I will order the book. I will let you know how that works out.
Enjoy your day!

One Christmas I bought him the complete guide to every episode of the Andy Griffith Show... he kept that on the table and thumbed thru it. That was a ton of reading for him.
He still keeps it right next to his chair. At the ready.
