As expected the first book of Denise Swanson's series was a quick read. Small paperwork, very light read. During her talk Denise told a story about a man raising his hand at a book signing. Instead of asking her a question he said, "you are no Janet Evonavich." I agree with that statement. That said, I look forward to watching the characters in Denise's book develop. I hope as I read her books I do not start hoping that she will just end the series and get it over with. That is where I am with the Evonavich series. Very over it. I think I stopped reading at least two, maybe three, books ago.
It is fun to read a book that is set in close proximity to the town I live in. As she describes towns, I can picture them in my head so easily. The story was funny. Not laugh super hard funny, but funny. I did not pick the correct murderer. Keep in mind, I am not in love with mysteries. Though this book is not what I consider a true mystery. It is more of a humorous, light mystery. I will read the second book. Not right away. Have some other reading I need to finish.
I am going to rate the book a weak, 3. If I believed in using decimal points, I would go 3.1. I do not. If you are looking for a light read, a book set in the midwest, a book you can read a chapter and put down, this book would be a good pick.
