I finished a great book today, Down Under by John Hart. This is the second book I have read by John Hart. He also wrote, The Last Child that I rated a 4. I really enjoy his writing. It is fresh. He writes a mystery that is next to impossible to put down. I stayed up too late reading this book. I could not wait to see what was going to happen next. I did not know how it was going to end. I did not see several twists and turns that happened throughout the story. That is a GREAT story.
Adam Chase witnessed a terrible tragedy when he was a child. It changed who he was and who he would become. It turned a sweet child into an angry and violent child and adult. When Adam was 18 he was charged with a murder he did not commit. His step-mother testified against him. His father did not take his side. Adam was acquitted but people believed he was the killer. He was forced out of town. For 10 years he lived in exile from his family. He receives a phone call from a friend that changes his life. Danny asks him to come home. He said he needs him.
Adam makes the decision to return home. Within hours of his return he is violently attacked. A close friend is violently attacked. When bodies turn up, Adam again finds himself fighting for his life. There are problems in his family. There are problems in the town. Many people are angry at Adam's family.
This story is a fantastic ride. If you like a great mystery, do not miss this book! I rated it a 4.
I made the decision a long time ago that 100 books is my goal. I also said if I do not reach my goal, I will not be upset. I do not want to turn my reading passion into something I cannot enjoy because of a number hanging over my head. My goal is doable. That said, I still do not know if I will reach it. I am fine with that. The Kid is not. He might not be competitive in sports. He is competitive in his scholastic life and my reading goal. I am afraid he will be let down if I do not hit the 100 mark. I read about 13 books in October. That was because I was off work. I am not sure I will be able to keep up that pace in November and December.
Stay tuned!
